Some good quality bowling by the spinners and good fielding by the Bangladeshis helped the home team confine Netherlands to a meagre 160 and then a patient 73 by Opener Imrul Kayes helped Bangladesh thrash Netherlands by six wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong. Netherlands won the toss and elected to bat first but their decision backfired as they got off to a extremely slow start with openers Eric Szwarczynski and Wesley Barresi addition just 28 runs off nine overs.

In reply, Bangladesh had a scare in the first over as they lost in-form Tamim Iqbal in the first over of the innings cleaned up by Bukhari, but Imrul Kayes and Junaid Siddique put on a crucial 92-run partnership off 20 overs to make sure that Bangladesh were in a comfortable position at 92 for 2 in the 21st over. Imrul Kayes was named the man of the match for his uncomplaining knock of 73 off 113 deliveries with six hits to the fence.
